Members of GMB Bolton 23 Branch Committee, (The second largest trades union within Bolton Council) have worked with York Disabled Workers Co-operative to create a new branch banner that whilst linking with Bolton’s proud past and heritage will take them onwards onto a bright future.

Alan Flatley, Branch Secretary was responsible for sourcing the design for the banner and liaising with senior Bolton Council officers and the Leader of the council to enable the Bolton Crest to be proudly featured on the banner.

Alan said ‘As the new Branch Secretary I felt honoured to move forward from the past and create a banner that symbolises our Bolton heritage and the inspiration of the image on the back came from the Addis Ababa Ethiopia-Cuba Friendship Memorial Park and represents the coming together of people and nations which embodies looking forward   – in strong and mutual trades unionism.‘

The banner will have its first outing at Durham Miners Gala and will then travel to Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival in Dorset.

GMB Bolton 23 Branch has met the costs of the banner and which was produced in York by an ethical workers cooperative run by disabled people for disabled people.
