Bolton 23 GMB is a local government branch based above Ashburner Market, Bolton.
We represent members in all areas of Bolton Council including schools, academies, offices, centres and depots.

Bright Future
Back in 2021, Jo Pitchford was elected Branch Secretary working alongside Mark Shakeshaft as Branch President, both supported by a team of well trained and skilled branch representatives. This followed the retirement of Alan Flatley who had led the branch for four years.
Proud Past
Back in 2017, Alan Flatley became Branch Secretary, following the retirement of Stephen Dickinson and he led the branch forwards into a new era, and at the same time Jo Pitchford was elected as Branch President .
Alan was responsible for designing the new branch banner, pictured to the right.
Around this time after campaigning and lobbying elected members, Bolton 23 GMB was instrumental in the signing of the TUC Dying to Work charter which is still in place today.
Formerly part of Bolton 19 GMB Branch , we became a stand alone branch through re-organisation of branches in the North West and Irish Region when our numbers grew.

We are very proud of our heritage and the history of the GMB and also play an active part in North West and Irish Region activities. We have elected representatives to attend GMB Congress since 2015 and are heavily inolved in the life of the region through Regional Equalities Forum and Self Organised Groups.
We provide advice, support and representation as well as organising campaigns and negotiating to improve and protect our members pay and terms and conditions of employment.
Anyone in employment has a legal right to be a member of a trade union and to be represented by GMB.
